Jaipur Metro Rail in India to Renovate Station with LED Lights

The Jaipur Metro Rail in India will be replacing all sodium lights at the Vivek Vihar station with LED lights to cut energy consumption, reported The Times of India.

Replacing outdated high pressure sodium lights will help the metro company save INR 800,000 (US $ 11,866.79) per month. Energy consumption at this particular metro station will be nearly halved from 56 kilowatt per hour (kWh) to 26 kWh.

"We have invited tenders for the same . The estimate cost to install these lights will be INR 1.4 million. The JMRC is setting an example for other government departments to save energy," said a JMRC official.

Majority of JMRC’s spending is on buying electricity and efforts are continuously made to slash energy consumption. The Metro also decided to install rooftop solar panels at eight elevated stations on a 9.25 km long corridor between Mansarovar and Chandpole.
