Hot Picks of the Week Sept. 5-9, 2016

Highlights this week:

Unveiling of the iPhone 7 this week has wowed many, it introduced a dual camera system for the first time and a four-pieced LED lighting that raised lighting output by 50%. The LEDs comprises two warm white and two cool white LEDs. Rumors of the OLED screen…well, we’re not seeing it in the phone yet. So the wait for an OLED screened iPhone probably won’t be over anytime soon.

In a survey conducted by Goldman Sachs, LED technology emerged as the top market disruptor in the green energy sector, and has said to have been the top game changer among green energy technologies.

Other progresses includes Opple and Huawei’s partnership in smart lighting market, and Taiwan’s Nanya Opto’s announcement that it will be focusing on industrial and smart lighting sectors to boost its profits.

In the Europe, Philips has unveiled many new products it showcased at the IFA 2016 that took place this week in Germany. Motion detection sensors were added to the Philips Hue, and Osram has also been very active this week.

Latest developments suggest the growing IR LED market growth potential has led Osram to reconsider some of its investments, and will be allocating part of it set aside for constructing new white LED fabs to making red hot IR LEDs instead. The German company is also increasing its organization’s flexibility with the establishment of a new connected lighting company Fluxunit.
