Cross-Strait LED Industry Cooperation Seminar Aims to Integrate the Best from Both Sides

The Cross-Strait LED industry cooperation seminar took place at Dayeh University in Changhua County, Taiwan on Sept. 4, 2014. Industry experts and academia from China and Taiwan attended the seminar.

To raise global competitiveness in an increasingly fierce market, China and Taiwan should cooperate in the LED sector to create new business opportunities, and advancements in energy efficiency and smart lighting, said Taiwan’s Deputy Economics Minister Shen Jong-chin. Since the initiation of the Cross-Strait Industry Cooperation project, the LED industry from both sides have worked closely, and attracted investments from international manufacturers

Taiwan’s LED lighting industry market value totaled NT $ 21.95 billion (US $730 million) in 2013, said General Director of Electronics and Optoelectronics Research Laboratories at The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI). The country’s total LED chip revenue of US $1.58 places it in first place globally. Taiwan’s LED industry’s advantages is in component R&D, processing technology and quality control. Chinese LED manufacturers’ advantages has been in government support, large domestic market demands, and business opportunities from China’s 12th Five-Year Plan. Liu projected further increases in LED market share, and pointed out integration of the two straits advantages could create win-win situations for the LED industry.

Aside from exploring related LED industry issues, the forum also allowed LED manufacturers to display latest products and exchange information. A total of 21 manufacturers attended the forum including Taiwanese manufacturers Epistar, Delta Electronics, Everlight, while Chinese manufacturers included San’an Opto, Silan Azure and others.
