Taiwan’s Everlight and Genesis Venture into Mainland China LED Streetlight Market

Taiwan`s biggest LED packager Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. and Genesis Photonics Inc., one of the nation’s major LED makers, are venturing into China’s LED streetlight market which is estimated to have a annual demand of over 1 million units.

Everlight had its March revenue of NT$805 million (US$23 million at US$1: NT$34), surging from NT$600 million (US$17 million) for a month earlier. As contracts for LED backlights from NB PC and mobile-phone manufacturers rose, the market outlook for April looks pretty good, inspiring the company to put more efforts to develop lighting modules in addition to expanding their backlight business.

Genesis also had its March revenue surging to NT$86 million (US$2.5 million), growing approximately 42% from same month a year ago. The substantial growth was mostly due to increasing demand from outdoor signage manufacturers and deliveries of streetlight modules to Europe and America. Revenue for this month is expected to reach NT$90 million (US$2.6 million) and the order visibility at least lasts to the next month. The company would very likely win streetlight contracts in several cities in eastern and northern China provinces, said K.J. Chung, chairman of the company.
