MLS LED Package Business to Overtake Nichia

MLS has started to sell its products through Korean distributor Optoleds in Korea, according to a report by ETNews. MLS has become one of the first Chinese LED package manufacturers to be ranked among global top 10 LED manufacturers. A research organization estimated based on current development speed, MLS will be able to surpass top ranking Japanese LED manufacturer Nichia.

The company is the first Chinese LED manufacturer to be included in IHS top 10 global LED package manufacturers in 2013. MLS has quickly become one of the top four LED package manufacturers in LEDinside’s latest “2014 Chinese LED Package Industry Report” released in October.

MLS LED package has an 87% revenues share, which is mostly used in lighting. Currently, MLS has the world’s highest LED package volume. MLS annual LED component production capacity exceeded 20 billion PCS in 2014, and continued to expand at a monthly rate of 1 billion PCS, which is projected to reach 30 billion PCS by 2015. MLS is one of the fastest growing LED package manufacturers out of the global top ranked manufacturers, said Ji-Liang Lin, General Manager, MLS.

Aware of the overall declining light source and luminaire costs in the lighting era, and the growing product structure and driver costs, MLS initiated a strategy a couple of years ago to manufacture LED luminaire materials including metals, plastic, and drivers. Currently, the company’s LED tubes and bulbs monthly production exceeded 15 million PCS and has continued to grow.

The Chinese manufacturer’s greatest advantage has been large scale production to lower costs, and manufactured large volumes of LED package to lower LED chips retail price. In 2012, the company started to sell LED bulbs at super low prices of US $1 to quickly acquire market share. MLS has since been coined as the “price slayer.” Afterwards, MLS supported its development with integration of its leading automated production, high efficiency, and materials.

Industry insiders observed MLS might become the first Chinese manufacturer to have a company value over RMB 10 billion (US $162 million). Although, the company’s current sales is smaller than Nichia and other manufacturers, but its factory’s OEM uses a different model. MLS in-house R&D production, and manufacturing scale are already ranked as global leaders.
