Apple to Release iPad Mini with Double Die Packaging This September

With information pouring in about the launch of new iPhone and iPad products this September, the whole world is watching to see if Apple will be able to perform as well as they did 3Q. It is rumored that the new iPhone will come with dual-LED flash which will increase the phone’s flash power. With the iPad mini, the new generation will use a 0.6t double die packaging but the number of LEDs used in backlighting will remain the same making the new device lighter and thinner.

The high sales of the first generation iPad mini lead to much anticipation for the next generation which is expected to be launched this September. This time, instead of using 0.8t single die packing, Apple opted to use 0.6t double die packaging. Both the older and newer models of the iPad use a total of 36 LEDs for backlighting. The new generation iPad is illuminated by a single LED light bar for backlighting much like the older version, but is expected to be a bit slimmer in design. There is a lot of anticipation over the new iPad mini with Retina display, but it is not expected to hit shelves until early next year. In the meantime, Apple will release the new iPad mini featuring a high-resolution screen this autumn.

As to whether or not iPad5 products will also be launched alongside the iPad mini in September is still being debated. The difference between the new generation iPad backlight module and the older generation is quite substantial. In terms of the number of LEDs needed in the backlight, the reduction of numbers in the new iPad brought the cost of the entire backlight module down. iPad 4 uses two LED light bars for backlighting and single die packaging, while the new generation iPad will only use one light bar but have double die packaging. The new iPad mini will use a total of 72 LEDs, giving it a slimmer design.
