TowerJazz Supplies Chips to LeddarTech for Automotive LiDAR Applications

TowerJazz, an Israel-based chip producer, announced that its 0.18um CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) SPAD (single-photon avalanche diode) process has been selected by LeddarTech, a Canadian automotive LiDAR developer, for its automotive LiDAR solutions.

TowerJazz’s CIS SPAD platform combines CMOS, image sensors and SPAD on the same chip, offering an integrated solution with figures of merit. Through the partnership with TowerJazz, LeddarTech expects to expand the market of its LiDAR platform. LeddarTech’s LiDAR solutions enable active safety systems and semi-autonomous capabilities in vehicles, paving the way toward fully autonomous driving.

LeddarTech has also announced that two of its experts, Pascal Tousignant, senior product line manager and Frantz Saintellemy, president and COO, will take the stage at two industry events in Europe, the DVN Conference on LiDAR in Frankfurt, Germany and the Telegraph Smart Mobility Summit 2018 in London, UK. The company is presenting its technology choices and the competitive advantages while providing details on the LeddarTech LiDAR solution that enables customers to design custom automotive LiDARs with the leverage of LeddarTech’s platform.

In addition, LeddarTech also focuses on the business potential and commercial deployment of active safety and autonomous driving (AD) technologies for production vehicles. Saintellemy said, “LeddarTech offers a go-to-market strategy that is geared to meet industry challenges through its unique technology and LiDAR development platform offering, as well as through a distinctive business model that leverages win-win partnerships with leading industry players to enable the large-scale deployment of solid-state LiDARs in production vehicles.”

In 2017, Osram has acquired 25.1 percent share in the Canadian company as a response to the fast growing demand for LiDAR technology. The investment is also in line with Osarm’s strategy of becoming a high tech company.
