Huaguang of China Qualifies Veeco’s MOCVD for LED Production

Raysun Huaguang Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. of China has qualified gallium nitride (GaN) and arsenic phosphide (AsP) metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) systems from Veeco Instruments Inc., a tool provider in comprehensive fields, for high volume production of red and blue high-brightness light emitting diodes.

As one of the first companies dedicated to the R&D and mass production of LEDs in mainland China, Huaguang has gained significant expertise on Veeco’s MOCVD systems in the past several years, and is satisfied with the efficiency and stability of the tools, said Zheng Tiemin, general manager of the company. AS the LED market grows quickly, Veeco will be an important supplier for the Huaguang’s LED product line, he added.

“Veeco’s TurboDisc K465 and E450 MOCVD Systems were qualified for production in a short period of time, enabling Huaguang to ramp their production quickly. We are pleased to be supporting Huaguang’s volume production needs”, commented Bill Miller, Ph.D., Senior Vice President, General Manager of Veeco’s MOCVD Operations.

According to Strategies Unlimited, a market research house specializing in compound semiconductor materials, demand for GaN-based blue LEDs and As/P-based red LEDs is expected to grow at the annual rate of more than 15% over the next five years, mainly due to applications such as signs and displays, automotive, general illumination and LCD backlighting.
