euroLED Leading the Light

An insight into developments at Europe’s leading event in Solid State Lighting!
euroLED --- 9th – 10th June 2010 at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, UK

This will be 7th annual LED conference, exhibition and gala dinner, and over the years euroLED has become firmly established as Europe's premier LED event.  euroLED 2010 will continue to promote the LED industry, and this year it will also develop themes of lighting, intelligent energy and the influencers of the low carbon economy. This look to future reflects Birmingham Science Park Aston’s (www.bsp-a.com) focus on innovations that will drive the knowledge economy.   This year’s conference will showcase current innovations and look forward to next generation products and identify future development opportunities for the industry.  The conference will bring together best in class research, technical development and commerce.  I would like to welcome the members of our expert panel to euroLED 2010 and thank you for your contribution to achieving this vision. Dr David Hardman M.B.E, Managing Director, Birmingham Science Park Aston.

euroLED is focussing on commercial routes and breaking down barriers to adoption at the Ricoh Arena on the 9th and 10th June 2010, doubling in size from 2009. As LED based technology is being viewed more as use solution for energy efficiency, more investment and commercial opportunity is shaping this into an exciting time for the businesses that exhibit and attend. There have been a more diverse range of innovations to provide an environmentally responsible way of delivering and managing light, enabling projects connected with renewable systems and intelligent energy solutions. euroLED 2009 saw an impressive array of new approaches in solving technical challenges and 2010 is expected to offer more. Eve Gaut, euroLED manager, said “The market has been seeing some significant changes since 2009. More niche high value applications are attracting more collaborative R&D, plus products in illumination and lighting are now competing in a $2Bn market. euroLED has developed further in response to the increase in enquiries about the exhibition, which has caused us to double the exhibition space.” Driving innovation forward are organisations such as; Philips Lighting, OSRAM – Future Lighting - Everlight – Anglia – MARL – Arrow and Thorn Lighting. The doubling of the exhibition size is testament to a growing and vibrant global marketplace in a state of continuing growth and flux.

It is anticipated that the euroLED 2010 conference will be examining the natural advantages in energy efficiency, market opportunity and breaking down the barriers to market acceptance as well as the technical challenges facing the supply chain. Alex Clarke “The conference expert panel has converged a wealth of market and technical expertise that welcomes Lee Bensley of Philips Lighting, Geoff Williams of Thorn Lighting, Jon Potter from Future Lighting,  Dr Gareth Jones from the PPE/KTN, Paul Droshin representing Arrow and Dan Scott from Anglia, which means that euroLED is putting its commitment to industry first, keeping topics relevant and of high value” New innovation within the lighting market relating to Advanced materials, LED/OLEDs, electronic drivers and user ready solutions as they are now recognised as an important supply chain to a significant segment of the “Clean Technology” sector.  Through our studies and the connectivity euroLED has cultivated, we have noticed that a lot of new white papers have come forward outlining plans for increasing R&D support for innovation in Clean Technology. LEDs, for their energy efficiency, offer new hope in solving environmental issues when the link to intelligent energy and sustainable solutions is so strong.  I have personally seen how some of the new grant funding streams are becoming more relevant and therefore beneficial to our R&D capable community. To name some of the participants; The Bergquist Company, Bentham Instruments, Forge Europa, Carclo, Silica, Farnell are witnessing the change in market scale and this year ACDC are showcasing their Double Decker LED Bus as a key networking area for all delegates as they host the pre Gala Dinner drinks. UKTI are supporting the show with their 1 to 1 meetings area for industry to discuss international ambitions and strategic direction. LIF and the LA  are also hosting seminars within the euroLED 2010 exhibition arena over the 2 days which all delegates can attend. On the 9th June 2010 the industry will be refreshed at the Gala Dinner which  last year attracted 220 international delegates.
