Japan's ASP Topped LED Light Bulb Street Prices in Jan. 2017

Starting from 2012, LEDinside, a division of TrendForce began to track global LED light bulb retail average selling prices (ASP). According to historical data, LED light bulb price dropped steadily year by year. The ASP's compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 40W-equivalent (equiv.) LED light bulbs fell by 18% from 2012 to 2016. During the same time period, the global average price of 60W-equiv. LED light bulbs decreased by a CAGR of 24%.

Starting from 2017, in order to more accurately reflect all the regional LED light bulb ASPs worldwide, LEDinside upgraded the global LED light bulb retail price database system. The latest data showed, in Jan. 2017, global ASP of 40W-equiv. LED light bulbs was US $6.9. Worldwide ASP of 60W-equiv. LED light bulbs reached US $8.4.

Based on regional differences, Japanese region's ASP topped both the 40W- and 60W-equiv. sectors. Its 40W-equiv. ASP came to US $9.4, and 60W-equiv. ASP arrived at US $11.8.
In the Japan market, domestic brands dominated, such as: Toshiba, Panasonic, Iris Ohyama, Mitsubishi, and Hitachi. Japanese brands' LED light bulbs not only sell at a higher price in the Japan region, but also higher in other regions.

As to China region, its LED light bulb ASP was the lowest among all regions. Its 40W-equiv. ASP came to US $4.0, and 60W-equiv. ASP arrived at US $5.7. In the China market, the major international brands are Philips and Osram, and the major Chinese brand names are Foshan Lighting, NVC Lighting and Opple Lighting. China is the primary production base of global LED light bulbs. Most of OEMs for international brands (including Philips and Osram) concentrate in China, so ASP in the China market was lower.

Regarding to other regions, Europe and USA regions' ASPs were both higher and only second to Japan's ASP. Korean and Taiwanese regions' ASPs trailed after the Europe and USA regions' ASPs.
