Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd, the world-class LED manufacturer (www.seoulsemicon.com) announced that its Acrich MJT 5630D package, applicable to incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, and other lamps, have reached the world’s best luminous efficiency of 210 lm/W, which is the highest luminous efficiency set across the world for single LED package, and the package’s mass production has begun.

Seoul Semiconductor has provided 5630 LED packages (5.6mm wide x 3.0mm long) for the application to the lighting and IT fields and the products have been recognized as the representative mid-power LED. The currently-launched MJT 5630D+ LED package’s most distinctive characteristic is the upgrade of its luminous efficiency to the world’s best level of 210lm/W by using the LED chips that contain the multi junction technology (MJT: Multi Junction Technology) owned by Seoul Semiconductor.

The company has started the mass production of the new LED packages.

According to the SSL Plan (Solid-State-Lighting R&D Plan) released in May 2015 by the US Department of Energy (DOE), the LED is likely to take up 40% of the US lighting market that includes fluorescent lamps and halogen lamps by 2020 . In addition, it forecasted that by 2030, more than 88% of the lighting equipment will be replaced by LED, thus, leading the energy saving trend.

The plan argued that, to reach its goals,l, the luminous efficiency of the lighting application shall achieve at least 200lm/W and the luminous efficiency of LED packages shall be at least 220lm/W. In addition, it suggested a strategy for improving the performance of converters that has lowered the efficiency and life of current LED lamps and a strategy for expanding the AC LEDs and high-voltage LEDs as ways to improve the efficiency of LED lighting application. Seoul Semiconductor’s Acrich driving technology and Acrich MJT technology are in compliance with the AC and high voltage technologies described in the report released by the US DOE and are also recognized as the best solution for correcting the current problems of high defect rate and short life of converters. Seoul Semiconductor plans to expand the supply of Acrich MJT, thus, opening the era of high efficiency and long lasting LEDs.

Mr. Ki-bum Nam, CTO of Seoul Semiconductor, said, “The Acrich driving technology and Acrich MJT technology emphasized by the US DOE are the next generation LED technologies which would lead the future LED market”. He added that, “We will further prove our distinctive technology by achieving the luminous efficiency of LED package of 220lm/W within a year, the US DOE’s target achievement by 2020.”
