Samsung’s New High-voltage Package a Direct Hit for High-voltage LED Lighting Products

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a world leader in advanced components, has introduced a high-voltage, mid-power LED package that makes it easier for LED products to be directly connected to high-voltage power supply units and AC, significantly reducing system costs and improving efficiency.

Used in conjunction with an IC driver set into each LED module, these high-voltage LEDs sharply improve the efficiency of indoor down lighting. In addition to simplifying fixture design, Samsung high-voltage LEDs minimize the loss of driver efficiency that occurs when converters are used in conventional systems. The high-voltage LEDs also lower system cost since they have been optimized to work well in AC Step IC modules.

Samsung’s LV566B features a luminous efficacy of 130lm/W in cool white (5000K CCT, CRI 80+), making it well suited for applications such as LED light bulbs and high bay lights, in addition to a wide variety of down lights. The LV566B utilizes Samsung’s proprietary WMC (Wireless Multi Chip) technology to achieve optimal chip performance, including high efficacy. Furthermore, the LV566B is available within a CCT range of 2700K to 6500K at a CRI over 80. It has the same form factor (5.6x3.0 mm) as Samsung's LM561B mid-power package, so either fits nicely into lighting fixtures using industry-standard 5630-size packages.

With our first high-voltage package joining an outstanding mid-power LED package lineup, Samsung Electronics continues to provide highly competitive, technologically advanced solutions for LED lighting designers. Watch for Samsung high-voltage LED engines sometime in 2015, to complement the company’s LV566B package roll-out.
