DOWA Develops Short Wavelength IR LEDs with the World’s Highest Output Power

Japan-based DOWA Electronics Materials reported its achievement of IR LED by developing short-wavelength-infrared LED chips with a high output power at 6.8 mW with a peak wavelength of 1,300 nm, which is 3.5 times higher when compared to the existing products.

The company said its newly developed short-wavelength-infrared LED chips can balance higher output power and a smaller chip size, which are usually a trade-off, and that the upward optical output has been significantly improved, which is required for sensor applications. DOWA will expand these technologies to peak wavelengths of 1,450 nm and 1,650 nm, widening the lineup.

According to DOWA, the product can be applied for agricultural and food analysis, as well as medical and healthcare applications. The company has delivered sample products to its customers.
