Osram and Scout Introduce a New LED Wearable: Lighting Schoolbags

Osram has developed a specified LED module for Scout, a German schoolbag manufacturer, to produce a schoolbag with active integrated LED lighting.

With the LED embedded schoolbag, kids would be easily identified by road users when walking and cycling, especially when the days get shorter in fall and winter. The flashing LED solution integrated into the face of the schoolbag offers greater road safety on the way to school. The LED light on the schoolbags can work without batteries with its built-in rechargeable power bank. It can also be used as a flash light with a charge status indicator.

Hans-Joachim Schwabe, CEO of Specialty Lighting at Osram, explained the joint project with Scout, “With active lighting, we want to make a significant contribution to greater safety through visibility, whether it’s at work, in leisure activities or on the way to school. After supporting manufacturers of safety vests, we are now supporting the Steinmann Group, another strong partner pursuing this goal together with us”.
