TI Introduces PRU Technology for LED Lighting Controls

This summer Texas Instruments (TI) talked about the programmable real-time unit (PRU) available on the Sitara AM335x and AM437x processors. As a refresher, the PRU is a 200MHz low-latency multicore co-processor optimized for deterministic, real-time processing with local peripherals and memory that allows customers to save time and money by removing costly FPGAs or ASICs from system designs.

This PRU technology is robust enough to enable complex functions like motor control in applications such as 3D printers, LED lighting control, robotics, thermal printing, and more.

Today, TI introduced the expanded PRU software support package that provides a framework and examples for developing software for the PRU. This package contains examples and demonstrations. You can download yours here!

In addition to the software, we are very excited to introduce a new PRU cape for the BeagleBone Black. This new plug-in board will be sold and supported by TI and is a great, inexpensive way to evaluate the PRU on Sitara processors! It is available for purchase here for $39

Comment and let us know what piece of this technology you are most excited about!
