Elemental LED Adds Sea Turtle-Friendly Certified LED Lighting to Product Portfolio

Elemental LED, a leading U.S. based engineering and technology company that manufactures LED lighting solutions announced today that the popular Diode LED Fluid View® 12V Strip Light and Fluid View® 12V Wet Location Strip Light are now offered in an amber color and considered sea turtle-friendly. Elemental LED and its manufacturing and wholesale division, Diode LED, provides a wide variety of superior quality linear, task, and accent LED lighting solutions for both residential and commercial applications.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has certified both Fluid View 12V Strip Light Amber and Fluid View 12V Wet Location Strip Light Amber as Wildlife Lighting products when installed properly. The Wildlife Lighting Certification program is a cooperative effort between the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service designed to educate members of the public, the building industry, and government officials on how to minimize adverse impacts of artificial light to wildlife by using proper lighting methods and fixtures.

Lighting pollution can be a serious problem for many types of wildlife. Artificial lights cause disruption of behavior, injury and even death to thousands of migrating birds, sea turtles and other reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. However, red and amber LED lights give off a longer wavelength light, which is less likely to impact sea turtles' mating, nesting and migration habits, than white or short wavelength light (less than 560 nanometers).

"Elemental LED's lighting solutions allow our customers to light areas never before possible. We also understand how important it is to offer products that help preserve wildlife in their natural environment," says Jim Puchbauer, SVP of Marketing at Elemental LED.

"The certified Amber LED tape lights are recommended for use in areas where artificial lighting is needed adjacent to ecologically sensitive areas, sea turtles nesting beaches, migratory corridors, and Dark Sky Friendly communities," explains Luke Davis, FWC Biologist III. "Per the FWC sea turtle lighting guidelines, the certified Amber LED Tape lights must be installed in a shielded location with the light directed away from the beach."

To be certified as Wildlife Friendly, FWC determined these Diode LED products would meet three criteria when installed correctly:

  1. Low -- mount fixture as low as possible to minimize light trespass, and use the lowest amount of light needed for the task.

  2. Shielded -- fully shield the light so glowing lenses are not visible to minimize light trespass.

  3. Long -- all light produced must be long wavelength -- above 560 nanometers (ambers and reds) in the appropriate lighting fixtures.

Fluid View 12V Strip Light Amber and Fluid View 12V Wet Location Strip Light Amber now hold the Wildlife Lighting certification, which demonstrates how Diode LED products can play a helpful role in protecting marine animals in their natural environment.
