OSRAM SYLVANIA Unveils Flexible Controllable Light at LIGHTFAIR International

OSRAM SYLVANIA is demonstrating the company’s innovation in delivering personalized light with OSRAM OmniPoint™, a wireless, array-based LED lighting solution that offers extremely flexible light placement and intensity options. The luminaire consists of an array of independently controllable LEDs that can switch on/off and dim in coordination with the others in any combination, and produce ambient and spot lighting from a single light package at the same time. The dynamic LED luminaire will be unveiled at Booth #1922 at LIGHTFAIR® International (LFI®) 2015, the world’s largest annual architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference taking place May 5-7 in New York, New York.

With OmniPoint, the light output and placement are quickly reconfigurable via a wireless device and Android or iOS app. As a result, the user has the ability to quickly adjust the effective beam direction and angle, beam shape and distribution at the touch of a finger, rather than requiring a ladder and the extensive time needed to manually adjust various light sources. Light emerges from a small common focal point, with an aperture about the size of a 5” downlight, creating sharp shadows with no multiple shadowing effects. The resulting beam direction is manipulated electronically without mechanical moving parts for silent and reliable operation.

“It is very appropriate with 2015 being the International Year of Light that OSRAM SYLVANIA would reveal an innovative LED lighting system unlike anything the world has seen,” said Jes Munk Hansen, president and CEO of OSRAM SYLVANIA and CEO of OSRAM Americas. “OSRAM OmniPoint is an intelligent, powerful lighting tool that demonstrates how light is changing the way we live.”

“With OSRAM OmniPoint, lighting designers can do things never before possible like create circular or elliptical highlights easily and move them anywhere in the interface to see the results of their design in real time,” said Jerry Ryu, principal lighting designer, OSRAM SYLVANIA. “They can shape and combine multiple beams to create nearly limitless lighting designs for various applications.”

Applications for OmniPoint include any reconfigurable multifunction space including retail, museum, office, hospitality, entertainment, theater, conventions, and healthcare. For example, in a museum, a lighting designer could create accent highlights in multiple areas to focus on the beautiful artwork, while simultaneously adjusting background ambient lighting as needed. In a retail shop, using the optional WiFi camera a store employee could take a picture of a retail space from the ceiling and adjust the lighting to focus on specific areas to drive attention on certain profit-driving merchandise. If the layout needs to be changed because of sales priorities shifting, all they need to do is take a picture of the new floor plan and re-aim the lighting using with the touch of a finger using the simple mobile app.

Key Features & Benefits of OmniPoint include:

  • Infinite light distribution options
  • Adjustable beam shape and beam angle
  • Ambient and accent light simultaneously from a single luminaire
  • Replaces multiple fixtures enabling smooth ceiling look
  • CCT = 3000K and CRI >90, ideal for color critical environments
  • Wireless control via Android or iOS app
  • Live floor plan view via a WiFi camera as an option
  • Reduced labor time for beam aiming and adjustment
  • Easily reconfigure lighting with real-time changes in the space
  • Create, configure, save and recall lighting designs
