Dow Corning Showcases New Optical Silicone Products at LIGHTFAIR International 2014

Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation, is showcasing here at LIGHTFAIR® International 2014 (Booth #8425) its fast-growing portfolio of optical-grade silicones, which are helping LED lighting manufacturers worldwide to expand the possibilities for LED module, lamp and luminaire designs. In addition to the entire Dow Corning Moldable Silicones product family, the company is featuring two recently launched materials innovations and offering visitors an exclusive sneak peek at two additional advanced product technologies nearing commercialization. Many of the breakthrough applications that Dow Corning has helped to pioneer are also on display at its booth, along with live demonstrations that illustrate the design and process benefits of the company’s optical moldable materials.

"LEDs are transforming the global lighting market as they rapidly replace less efficient technologies in general lighting applications from street lamps and residential to office and industrial lighting," said Kaz Maruyama global industry director, Lighting Solutions at Dow Corning. "Dow Corning is committed to working closely with customers and collaborators to meet the emerging challenges and opportunities of this fast-moving market head on, and to enable a new generation of more efficient, reliable and cost-effective LED lamp and luminaire designs."

Backed by the company’s extensive innovation and expertise in LED materials, Dow Corning Moldable Silicones and other product technologies are contributing important advances toward that goal. Dow Corning materials being featured prominently during LIGHTFAIR® include:

  • Dow Corning® MS-1001 Moldable Silicone offers the highest hardness of the moldable silicone product line after cure to expand design flexibilities for thinner optical parts, and enable reproduction of surface features possible only with silicone technology.
  • Dow Corning® EA-2900 Sealant is a white silicone adhesive that is chemically compatible with the company’s other optical materials, and bonds rapidly and firmly in as little as 10 minutes to allow accelerated cycle times for handling and processing LED lighting assemblies.
  • Dow Corning® MS-3003 Moldable Silicone is in the final stages of development at Dow Corning. But LIGHTFAIR® visitors can get an exclusive look at this advanced encapsulant material, which delivers the higher thermal stability necessary to develop optical parts with remote phosphors. MS-3003 Moldable Silicone can help speed processing and provide reliable optical, thermal and mechanical stability for advanced LED lighting designs.
  • Dow Corning® CI-2001 White Reflective Coating is also due for launch soon, and is on display at LIGHTFAIR. Based on moldable silicone technology, this advanced coating sprays on reflectors easily with standard equipment to help boost total internal reflectivity, light diffusion and, ultimately, increased efficiency and value for LED lamps and luminaires.

A market leader in materials, expertise and collaborative innovation for LED lighting concepts, Dow Corning offers solutions that span the entire LED value chain, adding reliability and efficiency for sealing, protecting, adhering, cooling, and shaping light at a more affordable price across all lighting applications.

LIGHTFAIR® International is the world’s largest annual architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference. Held here at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 3-5, the event sets the global stage for lighting, design and technology innovation.
