LG Display to Supply OLEDs for Furniture Applications

LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies and an OLED lighting panel manufacturer, announced that it will supply OLED panels to ilroom, a specialized home furniture brand of the Fursys Group, a leading office furniture company in Korea.

The desk light is the first of its kind in the world to use OLED light panels as the light source. It is also significant as the first convergence project for OLED lighting with furniture.

The new OLED desk light is separately attached to the desk shelf, and it is designed to produce highly uniform OLED light.

LG Display drew public attention when the company installed 1,100 OLED panels for reading lights at the KwanJeong Library at Seoul National University in March 2015. The university adopted the new lighting because it offers excellent light quality, design differentiation with the thin, lightweight OLED panels, and reduces eye fatigue as the light waves are similar to natural sunlight. According to an SNU survey, 91% of the students in the KwanJeong Library find the OLED reading lights eye-friendly, and 94% say it improves concentration.

ilroom’s launch of the “OLED desk light” is similarly based on OLED light panels’ design differentiation and excellent light quality. The product is designed with two 213mm x 113mm OLED panels located horizontally. The panel helps improve concentration as it is a surface light source that offers superior light quality covering a large area with minimum shadow. It is also the most appropriate light source for a studying environment as it offers gentle light without flicker.

ilroom’s “OLED desk light” offers easy control with a touch button and has adjustable brightness with three settings. The “OLED desk light” is only 6mm thick even with its aluminum casing. The company was able to achieve this simple and modern design by using a super slim 0.88mm OLED light panel.

LG Display’s OLED lighting business will build on this collaboration with ilroom to expand its furniture convergence applications.

ilroom’s “OLED desk light” is available at a retail price of KRW220,000 (Approximately USD182) in the company’s 90 stores throughout Korea and on its website (www.ilroon.com).
