Merck at LOPE-C 2013: Unlocking the future with experience and pioneering spirit

Merck will be presenting its trendsetting portfolio of organic electronic materials at LOPE-C 2013 in Munich from June 11 to 13. One highlight will be the latest highly processable organic semiconductors marketed under the lisicon brand.

For more than a decade Merck has been spurring the rapid expansion of the Printed Electronics market with consistent innovation. Today Merck is accelerating the progress of futuristic display concepts with the latest developments in its lisicon portfolio. The new generation of polymeric organic semiconductors with mobility values exceeding 1cm2/Vs enable a performance approximately twice that of amorphous silicon and allow for dramatic improvements in process windows.

With lisicon Merck offers customer-specific and ready-to-print formulations, such as complete material solutions for producing integrated thin film transistors (OTFT) for flexible displays, including both e-paper and OLED (organic light-emitting diodes) applications. In unbreakable, bendable or even fully rollable displays, lisicon materials create new perspectives for more intuitive or natural display systems.

In organic photovoltaics, the properties of lisicon materials such as performance, stability and compatibility for roll-to-roll production accelerate commercialization significantly. Merck’s PV-D donor polymer materials and PV-A fullerene derivative acceptor materials are production-ready owing to their high conversion efficiencies and high solubility in non-halogenated solvent systems, enabling cost-effective green production technologies.

In the future, lisicon will also enhance the performance and application scope of photodetector technology. Merck is rapidly developing material and formulation concepts to detect and measure visible and non-visible radiation. The resulting more intuitive interface and sensing technologies will facilitate everyday life in line with the new product slogan: ”With lisicon, together we can unlock the future.”

Merck’s everlasting pioneering spirit and extensive experience is also apparent in its livilux portfolio. It comprises groundbreaking OLED material innovations, including both the latest small molecules for evaporation and soluble material systems for printing – each customized for the specific application. All livilux products offer impressively high stability and purity-boosting efficiency, thereby enhancing the lifetime of high resolution OLED displays. Merck’s soluble OLED materials even allow large printable OLED TVs on transparent and flexible plastic substrates. Furthermore, OLED materials from Merck open up innumerable possibilities in lighting, such as color-changing light tiles or illuminated windows. In both organic and mesoscopic solar cells, livilux Small Molecule Hole Transport materials (SHT series) are ideal whenever excellent hole mobility, amorphous structure or high solubility is needed.

With livion materials, Merck offers standardized and user-specific electrolyte formulations for DSSCs (dye-sensitized solar cells). These highly pure materials are available solvent-free or based on organic solvents. As part of its efforts to continuously increase the efficiency and stability of DSSCs, Merck is currently leading an international consortium that is developing high-performance DSSCs with a projected life-span of more than 20 years.

Merck’s isishape product range comprises various highly efficient, easy-to-use and environmentally friendly structuring materials, which enable selective etching in a fast and material-saving way. Merck’s tailor-made isishape echting pastes are used in mass production of solar cells and touch panels.

Comprehensive information on Merck’s latest developments will be presented both within the Technical and the Scientific Conference:
