LED EXPO Thailand 2019: International Companies Active in Emerging Markets to Accelerate LED Lighting Penetration

Although the LED lighting industry has already entered the mature stage of its development, but in the emerging markets of Southeast Asia, India and other Asian regions, there remains much room for growth as LED lighting is being applied in infrastructure and replacing traditional lighting. Thus we see international companies and Thailand’s native companies continually planning their strategies in this year’s LED EXPO.

Thai lighting company DLight showcased solar LED streetlights, targeting Thailand’s domestic demand. Ratana Saeyang, the Purchasing Manager, said that the Thai government has actively pushed for energy saving policies and promoted LED lighting applications domestically. As a result, projects from the government become a major growth of the company. Other applications provided by the company include high power factory lighting, commercial lighting and general indoors/outdoors lighting. DLight has factories in Thailand, producing products meeting several safety standards and playing an important role in Thailand’s lighting business.

Another company actively catering to the domestic market is ICE LED, who has similarly developed many kinds of streetlight products, as well as luminaires suited for courts and fields in sports and outdoor areas.

LEDVANCE had also quite a noticeable presence at the exhibition. After passing the baton on to MLS in 2017, LEDVANCE has to develop a wider range of distributors to get products onto Southeast Asian soil. Therefore, LEDVANCE is actively searching for collaborators this exhibition in an attempt to speed up the spread of brand influence within Southeast Asian regions. Apart from streetlights, LEDVANCE also showcased office lightings applications and commercial lightings in various color temperatures, as well as style oriented LED filament bulbs.

LED chip supplier Seoul Semiconductor put forth the Sunlike series of LED products as their main star of the show, which boasted natural spectra of light. Seoul Semiconductor’s overseas sales manager Jun Park explained that the company actively worked with local lighting companies such as ICE LED and L&E after setting foot in the Thai market last year, and has already taken second place in the market share, with the first place goes to Taiwanese Supplier Everlight.

Seoul Semiconductor saw the potential for LED development in Southeast Asian markets, and strategized accordingly and aggressively, not only having two Vietnamese factories in current possession, but also a third factory in construction and a fourth in planning. The expanding Vietnamese production capacity may give Seoul Semiconductor the edge as the US-China trade dispute rages on.

Despite LED lighting being mainly composed of common lighting or outdoor lighting products in Southeast Asian markets, LEDinside still managed to find a systems supplier, Hynetic, based in Bangalore, India’s Silicon Valley, showcasing in joint with camera company DreamVu IoT applications with smart light-adjusting functions.

DreamVu’s 360 degrees 3D camera is able to capture the flow of people, and, when used in conjunction with Hynetic’s light-adjusting system, allows automatic down-toning of brightness upon detection of low crowd-density, raising energy efficiency. This system may be used for indoors lighting and outdoors streetlight applications, and is already seeing cases of actual application in many Indian cities, able to reduce energy consumption by nearly 50%.
