Highlights of NEPCON JAPAN – Expanding Market for Automotive LED Components

With more complicated functions rolling out, future cars are programmed to be safer, more electric, automatic, and digitalized. This year, 1063 Japanese manufacturers and 242 foreign companies participate in NEPCON JAPAN. The number of exhibitors has hit a new high, compared with previous years. At the exhibition, many LED component makers show their ambition to enter the automotive market.

EVERLIGHT

EVERLIGHT this year focuses on automotive LED, including both interior and exterior automotive lighting. The company highlights its LED headlamp and tail light modules. In addition, EVERLIGHT also demonstrates the lighting effect of the tail light module using its self-developed 3D light guide films.

ROHM

ROHM specializes in the design of integrated circuits, passive components, power components and power supplies. It showcases applications such as wireless charging modules, ADAS modules, IGBT modules, automotive ICs and SiC power components at the exhibition. In response to the development of electric vehicles, the specification of automotive power supplies will be upgraded to 48 V. In this case, it requires larger circuit boards and more ICs to switch the voltage down when using traditional structures for the design. If it is to power a 3.3V LED light, the structure needs to be able to tune the voltage down to 12V and eventually 3.3V with extra special ICs, for example. In comparison, ROHM provides a power supply solution that enables direct voltage tuning in one go. The structure of its solution is much simpler. It requires less ICs and the size can be reduced by 50%.

Kepper

Kepper Technology manufactures lighting modules for automobiles and motorcycles, with a focus on tail lights and daytime running lights, etc. In recent years it has also entered the sector of LED drivers, for instance, the drivers in Automatic High Beam Headlamp Control System (ADB) and Active Headlamp Steering Lighting System (AFS). ADB is a self-adjusting light control system based on the light source, and uses more flexible LED lighting modules. By controlling single or multiple LED bulbs, ADB can create a variety of light shapes.

Dynamic

In recent years, Dynamic has been focusing on automotive circuit boards that can be applied to the ADAS and automotive power supply modules, etc. The high frequency Teflon (PTFE) and ceramic substrates will be used in ADAS while thick copper substrates will be used in automotive power supply modules.

TIANMA

TINAMA this year exhibits its multi-functional automotive display module, which integrate dashboards, control panels, multimedia, navigation and touch functions all into a multi-functional car display. This design makes automotive displays more modern-looking and will act as an interface displaying signal exchange of autonomous driving in the future. The size of this display is 1125.7 * 150 * 10.9mm, with a 1920x720 resolution and 1000: 1 contrast, and its brightness reaches up to 800 lm.
