LG to Enter the Battlefield of Cinema LED Display against Samsung

LG is joining the business of LED cinema screen to compete against its rival Samsung, reported by Aju News, a Korea-based media. It was reported in April that LG has registered a trademark for LG LED Cinema on March 31, 2020, to prepare for related business. Under the trademark, LEG plans to release LED signage for theaters.

LG reported planned to release its cinema LED products at CinemaCon 2020 in Las Vegas, USA, but the event has been cancelled due to COVID-19. Nevertheless, as a proactively player in the display industry, LG has already installed several ultra large LED displays in Korea.

LED cinema display is a niche field for display makers as the price competition in the industry continues. Samsung’s cinema LED screens, under the brand “Onyx,” have been installed in some cinema across the world.

LEDinside analyzed that LED video wall has a great potential with a wide range of applications. However, the bans of crowd-gathering activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic have heavily impacted on the demands of video walls covering applications of stage rentals, movie cinemas, hotel conference rooms, and retail stores. Orders are deferred or reduced accordingly.

However, national governments are likely to implement various economic stimulus policies throughout 2020 such as increased public infrastructure spending and market demand for LED video walls, including outdoor displays, might have a chance to ramp up again in the second half of the year.
