Nottingham’s LED lighting programme is now complete

News Source:

The programme has successfully replaced over 36,000 lights with new LED sources, in partnership with Enerveo.

Nottingham City Council secured a grant for £7m from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund to upgrade street lights in all the city’s wards with new, energy-efficient LEDs. As part of this ambitious project, subway lighting and signage lights were also upgraded. The programme began in July 2022, starting with Sherwood and Clifton and most recently finishing up in St Ann’s, the Meadows and the Dales. LEDs were installed ward by ward until they were all completed last month.

The new LED streetlights are more energy efficient which will help support the goal to make Nottingham carbon-neutral by 2028. They will also help the Council save money by using less electricity and having a longer lifespan.

Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Highways, Transport and Planning, Councillor Angela Kandola, said: “The rollout of the LED upgrade programme across Nottingham has been very impressive. This milestone marks our commitment to sustainability and it’s great that the new lights not only conserve energy but also significantly reduce operational costs. I look forward to seeing the continued positive impacts in the coming years.”

Greg McNally, Operations Manager for both Nottingham and Stoke-on-Trent PFI’s, said: “We have been delighted to support Nottingham City Council`s investment on the LED upgrade works.

“The investment has brought a number of benefits to the area such as a boost in local employment during the period as well as a reduction in energy consumption and subsequent carbon impact. It has also reduced maintenance activities which has resulted in significant cost savings to Nottingham City Council.”
