News Source:

Korean LED manufacturer Kumho Electric (Kumho) has recently signed a MOU with a Kazakhstani lighting company for an Almaty city streetlight project, reported Business Korea.

Almaty is the largest city in Kazakhstan, and a major commerce hub.

Under the agreement streetlights and security lights will be supplied first to expressways, light rail subways, cities and parks during first phase of the LED streetlight project. This is followed by the supply of general lighting including FPL luminaires and flat lighting during the second phase.

Kumho will provide support for product development, production, supply, and technology to the Kazakhstani company, while the Kazakhstani company will mass produce and sell the products on the market.

The Kazakhstani LED lighting market is expected to nearly double from the current US$33.6 million to US$72 million within the next five years. Currently, there are only six lamp manufacturers in the country with a production capacity of 5 million to 6 million LEDs. The country LED manufacturers mostly rely on imports from China.
