Online Distributor Visible Lighting Explores New UV LED Discovery

It has been reported in R&D that a new type of LED is currently being worked on by a team from The Ohio State University. It comes at a time when commercial uses for UV light are growing, and it is believed the product could be used for chemical detection, disinfectant and UV curing.

Further down the line, it is also claimed that the LED may someday provide a source for UV lasers for eye surgery. The patent pending LED creates a more precise wavelength of UV light that today’s available UV LEDs. It is also more compact than models currently available on the market.

Creating LEDs out of semiconductor nanowires doped with the rare earth element, gadolinium, the engineers are now working on maximising the efficiency of the LED. The university’s Technology, Commercialisation and Knowledge Transfer Office is set to license the design to the industry.
Renowned for their range of advanced technology LED bulbs, the team at Visible Lighting take a natural interest in all updates and developments within the industry. As such the team were keen to share their views on the current LED project in Ohio.

“Every day we’re seeing more progression within the LED market and it’s exciting to think that this particular project could eventually be used in laser eye surgery and computer chip technology. We’re looking to following the progress of this story.”
