Hot Picks of the Week Oct.26-30

U.S. regulators “scared” the LED industry this week, by halting Lumileds sell to Go Scale Capital. The deal has been put on hold by Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) over unstated concerns. Lumileds representatives, however, assured the public that the deal is still in progress and will be sealed by next quarter or first quarter of 2016 latest.

Following Sony’s statement that it had acquired Toshiba’s CMOS sensor business, Toshiba followed up with the announcement that it plans to withdraw from white LED business.

UN representatives gathered at Dubai this week discuss how energy efficient lighting, especially solar LEDs in developing countries could eliminate global poverty.

Some interesting news this week include Canadian scientists bypassing the nervous system and directly stimulating muscle control with LED lights. Boots Optics blue light filtering lenses ad has been banned by ASA over misleading claims. Lastly, in a case of bad business model, LightFreq founder Denvor Alli has gone missing after he failed to deliver preorders to his Kickstarter campaign supporters. For more please see below.
