【Exclusive Interview】Violumas Enhances UV LED Optical Power and Extends Product Portfolios to Seek Market Potentials

TrendForce was very honored to have a phone call interview with Saya Han from Violumas, who shared the company insights towards the UV LED market prospective as well as its business progress at Photonics West 2024.

Han indicated that Violumas takes positive attitude toward market outlook of 2024, since the company successfully enhances the optical power of UV LED, as well as lifetime requirement and market competitiveness. UV lamp has wide-band range from UV-A, UV-B to UV-C wavelength; therefore, Violumas has successfully debuted two new products at Photonics West 2024, in response to customer needs on applications and UV lamp replacement.

Firstly, 325nm UV-A/B LED (200mW @ 350mA, 19V; 3% WPE) is used for phototherapy, horticultural lighting, food preservation, biological, life science, and curing applications. In addition, 340nm UV-A LED (640mW @ 350mA, 18V; 10.2% WPE) is also debuted in the market. 

Secondly, UV-B/C LED’s wavelengths include 310 / 295 / 275 / 265nm high power COB 

LEDs, adopting both 3x3 LED chips (265nm: 635mW @ 2.1A, 18V, 2% WPE; 310nm: 900mW @ 2.1A, 17.7V, 3.2% WPE) and 4x4 LED chips (265nm: 1,050mW @ 2.1A, 24V, 2% WPE; 310nm: 1,600mW @ 2.1A, 23.6V, 2.4% WPE). Han indicated that Violumas’ High power COB LEDs are aimed to be used in water treatment market. According to TrendForce’s analysis, once the UV-C LED reaches the ideal efficiency (WPE ≥10%), there is a chance for it to replace UV lamps, especially for flowing water sterilization market, such as water treatment applications.

Currently, Han indicated that Violumas’ main products include 265nm / 275nm UV-C LED, with 82 / 87mW respectively. With the 3-Pad Flip Chip technology, the supplier’s 265nm 130mW UV-C LED at 700mA owns outstandingly expected lifetime, up to 13,000 hours as revealed in an R70 test. Such comprehensive high-power deep UV LED products with excellent reliability will help the company enter more markets in the near future, such as air disinfection for large-space and facilities, water sterilization, curing markets.

Violumas anticipated that once the UV LED market grows steadily and is not troubled by defective products and vicious price wars, companies can receive more research and development resources to debut new products, enhance optical power and WPE as well as increase the market competitiveness.
