Lumileds Launches Multi-Die Emitter for Outdoor Fixtures

Lumileds introduced the LUXEON MX, a multi-die emitter that delivers industry leading efficiency and flux for outdoor fixtures and high bay lighting applications. Lighting fixtures benefit from the emitter’s 1,200 lumen, 150 lm/W efficacy, at 85°C* which enables a system efficiency of 120 lm/W when driven at 700 mA. “This is double the flux of comparable emitters in 120 lm/W systems. We’ve achieved this performance leap by optimizing the LED for improved efficiency at higher drive currents up to 1.5A with the 12V device,” explained Seth Danielson, product manager for the LUXEON MX.

ANSI Publishes ANSI C78.374-2015 LED Package Specification Sheet for General Illumination Applications

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) announced that ANSI Accredited Standards Committee C78 published ANSI C78.374-2015 Light-Emitting Diode Package Specification Sheet for General Illumination Applications. The purpose of this new standard is to specify the standardized white light-emitting diode (LED) package specification sheet, or data reporting format, as the means of communication between LED package producers and users in general illumination applications. The minimum defined contents and format of the specification sheet are provided.

LEDinside: General Lighting Sector Claims 39% of Chinese LED Package Market in 2014

The scale of the Chinese LED package market grew 19% year on year to US$8.6 billion in 2014, according to the 2015 Chinese LED Industry Market Report by LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. The growth of the Chinese LED package market will slow down in the next few years as LED prices continue to fall. Its market scale is forecasted to grow at a five-year CAGR of 9% from 2014 to 2019, when it will reach US$13 billion. The general lighting sector will be the main growth sector, whereas LED display and LED backlight sector will post slower growth and even decline in some periods.  According to LEDinside's analyst Allen Yu, LED package for lighting application represented 39% of the Chinese LED package market in 2014. The market scale of LED package for lighting application in China also reached US$3.3 billion that year. The lighting market has become the largest LED application in the country. “The increasing LED lighting penetration in industrial and commercial lighting applications has helped the rapid growth in lighting LED products,” said Yu. LEDinside expects strong growth in the lighting LED market to continue as LED lighting products penetrates the residential lighting application market.

ProLight, a Taiwan high power LED packaging house, introduced the latest E series products which can be driven to higher drive current. E series adopts ProLight’s patented High Thermal Eutectic Technology. The eutectic material that is commonly used is Au-Sn, the thermal conductivity is around 58W/mK, but ProLight have developed the high thermal dissipating eutectic material, which have thermal conductivity over 160W/mK. In our everyday lives, we encounter outdoor displays in a variety of different forms. Osram Opto Semiconductors is now launching the first LED with oval light-radiating characteristics for large-screen video walls or digital road signs: the new surface-mountable Displix Oval. Thanks to a compact housing measuring just 2.1 x 2.7 x 1.5 mm, almost twice as many LEDs can now be mounted on a board than with ordinary radial diodes, doubling both the pixel density and the resolution of displays.
