This LED badge launched at Burning Man this year has an OLED touch screen was designed by applying reproductive science and genetics. The personified light badges “inherit” a particular lighting sequence that can be passed on to another light badge through intercourse, which takes form through blinking lights. However, all sex between the lighting badges is consensual and require the approval of the female badges (yes the badges have different genders). Badges can also engage in homosexual relations. New York Rolls out Pilot LED Lamp Project to Monitor Air Quality at Nail Salons

In 2015, Pegasus Capital Advisors committed to catalyzing healthier working conditions and improved air quality in New York City’s nail salons. An issue largely overlooked, nail polish contains many volatile organic compounds which permeate the air and are health hazards for workers and customers alike. Pegasus and its partner, Lighting Science Group (LSG), have developed the Genesis Light, a desktop light that monitors and reports on air quality wirelessly using a sensor chip embedded in the lamp. It uses easy to read emoticons on the units, as well as transmits data that will be accessible online. Empowering salon workers and customers, Pegasus, LSG, and partner the NYC Public Advocate will deploy 50 free Genesis Lights to nail salons that they identify in hopes that the pilot program will inspire customers and regulators to make informed decisions that will ultimately incentivize a continuing domino effect in nail salons to better manage their air quality.

DOE Publishes CALiPER Report on the Photometric Testing of White-Tunable LED Luminaires

The U.S. Department of Energy's CALiPER program has released Report 23: Photometric Testing of White-Tunable LED Luminaires, which is the first in a planned series of investigations on color-tunable LED luminaires. The main goal of the new study was to understand the amount of testing required to characterize a white-tunable LED lighting product. In this case, determining a sufficient protocol required more extensive testing than would be feasible for widespread use. Eight white-tunable luminaires were tested at dozens of points covering the range of color tuning (CCT) and dimming (luminous intensity).

Chicago Mayor Announces Plans to Modernize City Lighting

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Infrastructure Trust (CIT) today released a Request for Information (RFI) for the Chicago Smart Lighting Project, which seeks to update the City of Chicago’s electric lighting infrastructure. The goal of the Smart Lighting Project is to transition the City’s and Parks’ lighting to LED technology and to replace outdated infrastructure to achieve efficiencies, cost savings, and improved performance. A large-scale conversion to more environmentally friendly LED technology will reduce electricity use and utility costs. This overhaul of City lighting fixtures and Chicago Park District pathway lighting will be financed through cost savings and potentially, new revenue sources that do not include additional taxpayer funds.
