Sweden nanowire semiconductor LED developer GLO AB has closed an SEK 170 million investment round (approximately USD 25 million), and set up a California-based engineering center to supplement its current efforts in Sweden and Denmark.

Acuity Brands has completed a pilot outdoor LED lighting project, which uses its Holophane(R) brand of luminaires to bring energy savings and sustainability to the scenic campus of Anderson University, Indiana.

Home Depot schedules to sell a Philips LED bulb which now called the 12-watt EnduraLED, to replace the common 60-watt incandescent.   According to representatives from Philips and Home Depot , the bulb will be available by the beginning of December and will cost between $40 and $50.  

It's reported that a new 4000K CCT ANSI binned part has been added to LUXEON Rebel product portfolio by Philips Lumileds. At the same time, Philips Lumileds has also raised the top flux bin for its cool and neutral white LUXEON Rebel by 20%.   The new part delivers improved color rendering and tight binning to simplify luminaire designers' engineering efforts.

AIXTRON AG announced an order from ETH Zurich for a Black Magic Plasma Enhanced CVD system to be installed at the Nanotechnology Center in Ruschlikon, Switzerland. The Nanotechnology Center is a unique, public private partnership between IBM Research and ETH Zurich. The new system, used for single wall carbon nanotube deposition, is 6-inch in configuration and will be commissioned by the local AIXTRON support team in the first quarter of 2011.

Valeo is fitting full-LED headlights on the ZB10 RENAULT and SEAT IBE concept cars exclusively presented at the Paris Motor Show. With their low energy consumption, equivalent to 85% of traditional headlamps, LEDs are perfect for electric vehicles because they increase their range, and they reduce fuel consumption by around 0.2 litres per 100 km for internal combustion engine vehicles.

It is one of their programs to ensure further security and environment in society. The street lamps employ OSRAM Opto Semiconductors’ Golden DRAGON Plus LEDs as the light source, of which is characterized by its 60,000 hours long life, achieving significant savings in energy cost and environment-friendliness.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE) announce that U.S. participants in the Cree LED City® program will join forces with the DOE Municipal Solid-State Street Lighting Consortium (Consortium). The Consortium will provide ongoing national organizational structure and guidance to LED City members and new members in the process of evaluating solid-state street lighting technologies meant for public streets and other public areas.

Mitsubishi has installed the first Diamond Vision OLED screen, over at Merck's new Material Research Center in Darmstadt, Germany. The display measures 3.84m by 2.3m with a 1280x768 resolution. It has 60 modules (each is 128x128), and weights a total of 480Kg(!). Merck will use the display as an information system for presentations and events.

Valeo and its partner in Japan, Ichikoh, have developed a new generation of LED front lighting systems, unveiled as a world premiere on the Nissan Leaf Electric Vehicle. The South Korean steel industry giant POSCO announced to participate in the LED Industry. The new venture's headquarters will be in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. The new company is comprise of POSCO ICT (63.3 percent), the IT and engineering arm of POSCO steel, POSCO Steel (16.7-percent) and Seoul Semiconductor (20 percent).And  POSCO ICT CEO Hur Nam-suk will have leadership responsibility for the venture.

Nexxus Lighting has to put off the laboratory of its first series of Array(TM) LED replacement lamps, because the product is under the review of the ENERGY STAR program.   Once the test is completed, Nexxus will submit its R30 product in both its flood and narrow flood configurations at 3000 deg Kelvin color temperature.
