According to a new report from IMS Research, now part of IHS Inc, the market for LED driver ICs in LED lighting increase from $214 million in 2012 to $323 million this year. This will allow the LED market for lighting to exceed that of cell phones, which will have revenue of $316 million. Unit shipments of LED driver ICs this year will continue to favor mobile handsets with 1.5 billion units, versus 1.1 billion for LED lighting. Revenue of GaN LED Products to Exceed 10 Billion U.S. Dollars in 2013

Research firm IHS expects that there will be more than 100 billion GaN LED units to be shipped in 2013 and the revenue from GaN LED products will exceed 100 billion U.S. dollars. IHS expects that the total revenue of GaN LED products applied in lighting will reach 3.4 billion U.S. dollars this year, and will come to 6.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2016.
