Bulb Illuminations Display Planted at the Holburne Museum

There is a 5,000-bulb illuminations display created by a acclaimed lighting artist in the grounds which will be switched on at 4pm on Saturday at the Holburne Museum.

Bruce Munro's Field of Light can be viewed daily at the museum for free between 4pm and 7pm until January 8, with a magical display of colour and light flowing through the grounds and into its Garden Cafe.

His inspiration came nearly 20 years ago while travelling in Australia, when he became transfixed by the way in which barren desert would burst into bloom after rainfall.

Holburne director Alexander Sturgis said: "We are delighted that Bruce Munro's artwork will bring such a magical experience of light within our grounds at the darkest time of the year. At what, for most people, is a frantic time of festive preparation we are pleased to be able to offer a tranquil and uplifting experience at the Holburne." Mr Munro added: "I think it is a piece with universal appeal and I'll be happy if it makes people smile at Christmas time."

PLus, the art gallery at the head of Great Pulteney Street is to hold its lantern procession between 4.30pm and 6pm on December 8, which is expected to attract hundreds of families.
