Dialight Debuts New StreetSense® LED Roadway Sign Light

Dialight has unveiled its next-generation StreetSense® LED Roadway Sign Light for roadway and infrastructure signage.

Offering unprecedented flexible mounting options and years of maintenance-free illumination backed by Dialight’s full-performance 5 year warranty, the new StreetSense fixtures are ideal for both new construction and retrofit from existing HID metal halide, high-pressure sodium and phased-out mercury vapor fixtures.

The new StreetSense Roadway Sign Light is available in two versions. A 6,000-lumen, 70W unit used in multiples to illuminate signs larger than 14 x 14 feet provides exceptional cost savings and a greener lighting solution by consuming 30 percent less energy than previous generation fixtures. The 4,000-lumen, 40W version, used in multiples on signs equal to or smaller than 14 x 14 feet, provides even greater energy savings with its impressive 100 lumens per watt performance.

In addition, the newest editions offer both top- and bottom-mount flexibility with a pivoting head for more precise light placement on the sign. Weighing in at less than 20 pounds, each unit also features two terminal blocks which allows for through-hole, in-line connectivity and the ability to wire one fixture directly to another in daisy-chain fashion. This simplifies installation by eliminating the need for dedicated wiring for each individual fixture. A slip fitter mounting accessory enables the units to be affixed to either a pipe or a plate.

“Typical roadway sign lighting is costly to operate and a major drain on maintenance resources, not to mention the traffic headaches caused by the frequent bulb changes required of HID lighting fixtures,” said Roy Burton, Dialight’s Group Chief Executive. “This new StreetSense LED fixture resolves all those challenges, slashing operating and maintenance costs by nearly 75 percent compared to traditional 100-250W HID sources and freeing up precious manpower for other more important projects.”

Unlike conventional fixtures that fade over time, the Dialight StreetSense LED Roadway Sign Light delivers longer-lasting, high-visibility cool white light with more than 70 percent lumen maintenance and a minimum of 20 footcandles output after 60,000 hours. Dialight’s emphasis on light quality is also exemplified with uniformity ratios of 6:1 or better. Compared with conventional fixtures, “hot spots”—or islands of light surrounded by darkness—are no longer a problem.

Each unit comes standard with a robust 6KV surge protector, and Dialight is the only manufacturer to offer an optional 10KV and 10KA surge protector for greater resistance against lightning strikes or high-voltage/high-amperage spikes. The ruggedized fixtures are highly resistant to shock and vibration up to 3G, withstanding even the heaviest truck traffic on overpasses and bridges with Caltrans QTL specifications pending. And, unlike conventional lighting that’s prone to long warm-up and re-strike periods, especially in cold weather, the Dialight LED StreetSense units offer instant-on capability and perform exceptionally well in any temperature from -40°F to +165°F.

The Dialight StreetSense LED Roadway Sign Light is designed to meet IEES RP-19-01 and CSA 1598 22.250 roadway sign lighting  standards, is IP66 rated and UL-1598 compliant for moisture/wet locations. It also meets the ASTM B117 salt/fog standard, having undergone 3,000 hours of salt spray testing.
