Taiwanese Research Team Announces Commercialization of OLED Lighting for Eye Protection

A research team in Taiwan announced that its development of OLED lighting is ready for commercial production. According to the research leader, Dr. Jwo-Huei Jou at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Taiwan, the team has developed OLED lighting that is similar to candle light which produces softer light source and does not cause harm to the human eye.

The OLED research team of NTHU worked with Electronic and Optoelectronic System Research Laboratories at ITRI and WiseChip Semiconductor in the development of low color temperature OLED. After years of research and development, the candle-like OLED is now able to be commercialized for lighting applications.

This candle-like OLED could be utilized in medical lighting and healthcare lighting with its softer light source which is less than 2000K. The research team believes that the candle-like OLED will bring healthier lighting applications which reduce the damage of blue light and enhance eye protection.
