Showing the previous central concept ‘THINKLIGHT: A New Dimension’ in 2016 has come one step closer to being concrete, GILE 2017 was themed around ‘THINKLIGHT: the Convergent Future’. Shifts in the lighting industry have led the convergence of distinct technologies, industries and devices, expressed Ms Lucia Wong, Deputy General Manager of Messe Frankfurt.

Industry elites, through their thought-provoking seminars, also conceptualize the idea of light as integral part of the future consisting of not only just light but networking, cloud computing (computer science algorithms), and data transfer and analysing to expand the scope of lighting applications from an individual scale and a household scale (smart home) to a scale covering a whole city, namely, what they called, the concept of smart cities.
