Samsung to Push QD Display Manufacture; BOE to Expand Its Market Share

Samsung announced that it will stick to its play to produce QD display panel next year as the Korean giant has quit LCD business. Meanwhile, BOE, the Chinese panel maker, announced its plan to take over shares of CEC Panda’s facilities to expand its capacity of large size display.

As the capacity of Chinese display manufacturers continues to expand, competitors from other countries have been searching for new approaches to drive their own business. Samsung, who once took a lead in the industry, decided to cut its LCD production and has sold its facilities in China. LG also made up its mind to exit the low profit business of LCD.

The Korean companies have turned to other display technologies including OLED, QLED, QD, Mini LED and Micro LED. In an industry meeting held in South Korea, Samsung Display addressed that QD display production is on schedule. It has also launched QLED TVs in the market of the U.S. and the UK.

On the other hand, BOE revealed that it will take over the facilities of CEC Panda in Nanjing and Sichuan, which will lead to more than a quarter of the total capacity in the market. BOE also said that it has secured 20.3% market share in flexible OLED panel in 2020.

Chinese players keep enlarging its market share in LCD and OLED displays, driving other display players to accelerate development of advanced display technologies.
