Optek Technology Designed OVM4x Series of LEDs for Military Application

To satisfy the need for military systems engineers to own high brightness color illumination and indication with well-defined patterns, TT electronics Optek Technology has designed a new family of high-reliability, high-sensitivity color LEDs with MIL-PRF-19500-level TX and TXV specifications.

The OVM4x series of visible LEDs come in a hermetically sealed TO-46 package with built-in ESD protection and are available in blue, green, red and yellow colors.

They all feature continuous forward current of 100mA, with a peak forward current rating of 1.6A (@10% duty cycle, 1kHz); power dissipation of 370mW; current linearity vs. ambient temperature rating of -0.2mA/°C; and operating temperature range of -55°C to +100°C. The LEDs are packaged with a clear glass lens and boast a feature a viewing angle of 18°.

The blue and green LEDs are made of InGaN, with the blue ones showing a typical luminous intensity of 2260mcd, dominant wavelength of 460nm- 470nm at IF=20mA, and forward voltage rated from 2.60V (typical) to 2.95V (max.)

The green LEDs have a typical luminous intensity of 6520mcd, dominant wavelength of 520nm-540nm at IF=20mA, and forward voltage of 2.60V (typical) to 2.95V (max.).

The red and yellow LEDs are both made of AlInGaP. The red ones feature a typical luminous intensity of 3330mcd, dominant wavelength of 619nm-629nm at IF=20mA, and forward voltage of 1.8V (typical) to 2.15V (max.) while the yellow LEDs have a typical luminous intensity of 2010mcd, dominant wavelength of 584nm-594nm at IF=20mA, and forward voltage of 1.8V (typical) to 2.15V (max.)

According to the company, the new LEDs can withstand extreme conditions in defense electronics, military vehicle lighting and harsh industrial applications.
