Lextar Electronic’s newly developed dual-sided LED panel light Harmonia has won the Good Design Award 2013, one of the most influential design awards in Asia. The light’s simple and clean appearance, dual-sided LED that gives a harmonious lighting environment was awarded the Good Design Award. This is the third time that Lextar has received recognition from Good Design Award in Japan. The company had previously clinched two prizes at the awards in 2012 with two LED bulb designs. Harmonia is expected to debut in October at the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition).

“Harmonia” means harmony. The design concept is to create light, space and harmony between people. The dual sided lighting design concept allows lighting above to be indirectly fused with the lighting below, and enables lighting to be uniformly distributed. This also lets people in the space feel more comfortable and at ease. Lextar has used its technological advantages as an integrated LED manufacturer, international ODM experience to design the uniform LED lighting panel. This has also changed people’s stereotype of LED light sources of having glare, and being harsh on the eyes. Its special R&D process uses thin membranes to reach the ratio of 30% lighting above, and 70% lighting below. The suspended light can still diffuse light upwards creating a much more comfortable lighting environment. In addition, the luminaire which is only 1.3 cm thick can be strengthened using mechanical designs, and the suspended luminaire maintains a smooth and flat appearance without bending. The border frame’s ridge also adds a touch of elegance. Harmonia’s double sided LED panel combines optics, material, structure, and aesthetics, which won it the recent award.

The Harmonia luminaire was made to explore the blue sea market of designed luminaires, said Emersen Yen, Senior Associate VP, Sales Department, Lextar. The recent Japanese Good Design Award recognizes Lextar’s industrial product design team and R&D team’s strength. The team had previously won awards at Germany’s iF and Red Dot design shows, Japan’s Good Design, Taiwan Excellence Awards, Golden Pin and many others for Wellypower Lighting, another LED subsidiary of Lextar. The awards have greatly added product value for Lextar.
