New LED Streetlights Leaves Dark Spots in New Orleans Neighborhood

News Source:

Concerned residents in New Orleans East, Louisiana, U.S. reported new LED streetlights are leaving more unlit areas than conventional streetlights, according to a WDSU New Orleans report.

The LED streetlight conversion project that cost US$ 16.4 million is not offering adequate lighting coverage, according to local resident Michael Jackson. The streetlights are illuminating the neighborhood streets, and leaving dark patches in between houses.

The new LED lights just don’t put out enough light,” said Jackson. “The older lights would put out enough light to cover the street as well as the yard and the houses.”

Residents hope the New Orleans Department of Public Works can improve the LED wattage in the already installed streetlights to make them brighter.
