NEMA Publishes White Paper on Failure Modes of Self-Ballasted Compact Fluorescent Lamps

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) published a white paper, NEMA LSD 40-2014 Failure Modes for Self-Ballasted Compact Fluorescent Lamps—A NEMA Update.

This new edition updates the document to reflect current industry practices regarding end of useful life issues for self-ballasted compact fluorescent lamps (SBCFL). The white paper responds to potential consumer concerns and communicates the actions that the industry has taken to minimize objectionable failure modes that resulted in these complaints. Specifically, the white paper addresses why SBCFL products have different failure modes from incandescent lamps and explains what the industry, standards development organizations, and third party safety agencies that establish SBCFL safety requirements have done and are doing to minimize any potential safety risk from SBCFL products.
