India New Delhi Saves 33 M Units from LED Lights

News Source:

Domestic users in the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) can contribute to 33 million units saving annually if they adopt the use of LEDs, according to a report from The Hindu.

NDMC chairperson Jalaj Shrivastava on Tuesday called out to 41,000 domestic users in the NDMC to shift to using LED bulbs in their homes. This action can cut NDMC’s annual lighting consumption of 66 million units by half.

LED retrofit projects will be rolled out within the next for months to upgrade lightings in the public areas, including hospitals, schools and buildings. “Retro-fitting of lights bulbs will take four months so by June this year we can replace them and in one year we will start seeing huge savings,” said Shrivastava.

The project is expected to costs the council Rs. 40 million (US $632,880).

NDMC is still considering the option to replace streetlights in its area with LEDs as it is too costly. “This will be more expensive and laborious so we are considering the best option to go about converting street lights,” said the chairperson.
