Refond Gives Updates on Its Mini LED and Smart Lighting Business

Recently, Refond revealed the development status of its Mini LED and lighting products during an investor relations activity.

In this May, Refond raised RMB 699 million (USD 108 million) through a non-public offering plan and is now striving to promote construction projects involving capacity expansion of Mini/Micro and full-color LED packaging.

Refond has begun shipping its Mini LED products in bulk. The current projects on hand include watches, cameras, monitors, notebooks, and large-size monitor applications.

Refond added that several end products backlit by its Mini LEDs were released already and that it expects more products using their backlight Mini LEDs to be on the market in 2H21. As various end products will be released, Refond plans to expand production capacity according to customers’ requirements.

Regarding transfer technology, Refond mainly adopts the conventional die bonding method, but the accuracy and efficiency are improving. Refond indicated that mass transfer is largely used for Micro LED products, on which the company is conducting research. The method of chip transfer depends on the required specs of the product in question, rather than the production rate.

Refond revealed that in 2021, their Mini LED manufacturing will create sales revenue to some extent, but the company is still at the development stage overall, where the profit can be relatively limited.

Additionally, Refond expanded the production capacity and adjusted the portfolio of its high luminous efficacy products. Regarding smart lighting, Refond, by following the concept of smart home application, developed color-changing, dimmable smart lighting products. Currently, the expanded capacity for lighting products has been gradually put into use.

At present, Refond’s lighting business is running at full capacity with maximum sales. Because the economy in 2021 is stronger than it was last year, Refond is projected to see clear order visibility in the next 3 months or longer.
