Introduction about LED-modules and systems Manufacturer Aluwave

Aluwave is a rapidly growing provider of customised LED-modules and systems that can include all necessary components such as LED-module, driver, optics and thermal solution. We offer short time to market and have working experience from several demanding industries.

Aluwave develops and delivers LED-modules and systems primarily within the segments for General, Street- Technical and Vehicle lighting. The solutions are based on superior products and extensive knowhow within thermal management.

The foundation of Aluwave is based on the expertise in thermal management and the unique substrate system called Alunat™.

General lighting
In general lighting applications, properties like glare, colour rendering and energy efficiency are extremely important. Dimming, smart energy saving functions, presence detection and control system integration are functionalities frequently asked for. The products, such as tasklights, pendants, downlights, pendants, spotlights etc, are normally produced in high volumes and are in a price sensitive segment. Some benefits of a LED-solution is the small form factor, energy efficiency and selectable colour temperature.

Street lighting
As more and more installations of LED-based park- and streetlights are being deployed a wide variety of concepts and functionalities are emerging. Aluwave works with both modular and scalable systems and with different functionalities and configuration and installation methods. It is still too early to see how high up in light output LED-based systems will grow - it is however clear that LED plays a role in this area and the coming years will be extremely interesting.

Technical lighting
For certain applications there are very specific requirements on the performance of a luminary, it can be very specific wavelengths, minimum energy or intensity levels, certain regulatory requirements, extreme form factors etc. The applications are typically found in medical, horticulture, underwater areas to mention a few. Infrared and Ultraviolet applications are increasing in importance as the LED availability in these fields are improving.

Vehicles
Regardless if it is an ambulance on the highway, a harvester vehicle in the forest, a drill-rig in a dark mine or a cruiseship at sea they all need professional lighting solutions. LED are moving into the vehicle market thanks to its ability to provide a tailored light at a low power consumption. The low power consumption makes these type of solutions especially interesting for the electrical vehicle market with battery driven cars, motorcycles, scooters etc where a lower power consumption positively affects the effective mileage of the vehicle.

We know thermal management - Alunat™
The technological development in the LED industry continues to advance at high speed and it is now possible to design automotive, street, work, industrial lights etc with excellent performance. The LEDs are now also at the stage that the price/performance ratio allows the technology shift to LED start on a broad scale. To keep up with LED development new bearer technologies are required. The LED’s simply generate too much heat and using traditional printed circuit boards will cause the LED’s to overheat, degenerate or break. Both light output and colour temperature are dependent on the operating temperature of the LED.

Alunat is a printed circuit board material designed for use with LED-technology. It has a ceramic dielectric layer with high thermal conductivity. Alunat is developed by Aluwave and can reduce the operating temperature of temperature sensitive electrical components such as LEDs. Alunat has been developed and adapted in close cooperation with key customers. The heat is in this way very efficiently transported away from the LED, allowing it to operate at lower temperature as opposed to a solution based on a thick polymer layer where the heat is locked to its source as described below.

The main benefits of Alunat are better technical performance (higher light output), reduced power consumption, increased reliability, prolonged service life and simplified design with reductions in assembly and component cost. Aluwave also works with other material manufacturers and for each individual project the material with the right price/performance ratio is chosen.

We design and deliver LED-modules - Aluwave Light Engines

Aluwave has developed a generic light engine, Aluwave Light Engine, which is easily customised to meet your requirements in terms functionality set and board geometry. It is built on Alunat for optimum performance.

Aluwave Light Engines are today used in several different segments of lighting with strict requirements on high flux output, long service life, colour rendering and colour stability requirements.

Sample of functionality set:
    • Light output e.g. 50 – 5 000 lumen
    • Variable light output – dimming
    • Compensation for ageing
    • Colour temperature
    • Variable colour temperature
    • Colour Rendering Index
    • Temperature feedback
    • Electronic theft protection
    • Lifetime up to 50 000 hours

The light engines are of course verified for optical, thermal and electrical requirements and with service level agreements you are guaranteed to always have the latest technology.
