Epistar and Everlight Posted Lackluster Revenue Results in April

Taiwan`s major LED maker posted lukewarm revenue records last mounth, sliping 2.74% from a month earlier, to NT$1.69 billion (US$59.2 million at US$1: NT$28.6); Everlight scoring 0.3% less revenue with NT$1.42 billion (US$49.6 million); and Edison Opto reporting a 3.2% contraction to NT$249 million (US$8.7 million). Epistar Teams up with Delta to Set Up Epi Wafer Factory in Guangzhou

Reportedly, Epistar has intended to inject US$75 million to set up an epitaxy wafer factory in Guangzhou of mainland China with Delta Electronics. The joint venture calls for total investment of US$210 million, with Epistar set to pay 70% and Delta to pay the remainder. Both upstream and downstream LED makers launched capacity expansion plans, LEDinside observed

According to survey of the industry research institute LEDinside, Taiwan's listed LED makers recorded total revenue of NT 5.982 billion in July 2009, a 5.8% growth from NT 5.652 billion in June 2009 and a 3.8% growth YoY. LED chip makers' total revenues in July gained 6.9% to NT 2.621 billion while LED packagers posted NT 3.361 billion, 5.1% growth MoM.

Epistar’s December revenues may drop 38%

Epistar Corp., a leading LED chipmaker in Taiwan, estimates a 38% drop in December 2008 revenues to about NT$400 million, according to a recent report. Epistar had revenues of NT$647.9 million in November 2008, down 28.3% from NT$903.7 million in October, and down 36.43% compared with last year. The company's accumulated revenues from January to November were NT$9.86 billion, up 5% compared with last year, according to data from the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

Global LED output growth is only 5% in 2009, while Taiwan accounts for 20%

It’s reported that the global LED output is expected to grow by only 5 percent next year, given the impact of the global economic downturn.
