The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has forecasted in its annual SSL R&D plan for 2015 that by 2030 approximately 80% of all lighting fixtures in the U.S. will be LED lighting which would result in an annual energy savings of up to 395 TWh, a 60% reduction in electricity consumption, which at a commercial price of $0.10/kilowatt-hour would correspond to an annual savings of US $40 billion.

Taiwanese LED chip manufacturer Epistar’s has showed steady revenue growth, accumulated revenue as of September 2014 has reached last year's total annual revenue of US $750 million, and it’s future revenue outlook remains positive. The company's merge with FOREPI is expected to further drive annual revenue growth to reach the $1 billion target soon, said Epistar Deputy Director of Marketing Center, Dr. Chiu-Lin Yao at LEDforum 2014 in Taipei, Taiwan last month.

Epistar Corporation, Taiwan’s largest LED epiwafer and chip maker has entered into a strategic equity investment and license agreement with Lynk Labs Inc., the leading supplier of AC LED device, light engine and power supply technology. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

LED lighting fixtures have accounted for fully half of all Underwriters Laboratories (UL) approvals in Taiwan, reports the Taiwan branch of the safety certification organization, comparing with the average 30% ratio worldwide, according to a report on Taiwan Economic News.

Lynk Labs Inc., the leading supplier of AC LED device, light engine and power supply technology, has been awarded its first U.S. patent for an AC LED drive method and aparatus. The newly awarded patent, U.S. Patent, No. 7,489,086 is entitled “AC light emitting diode and AC LED drive methods and apparatus."

Intematix Corp., a phosphor-technology powerhouse, has begun to carve out its niche in the global LED lighting market by poaching expertise, acquiring facilities, and upgrading LED know-how. Semiconductor devices, as computer chips and LEDs have been designed to work at low current ever since day one due to inherent characteristics, but call for direct-current (DC) transformers to be powered by household AC (alternating current).
