Osram Opto’s advanced optical designs and light contrast technology might one day be applied in next gen LED manufacturing, said Byron Liang the German lighting giant’s Marketing Manager of VIS LED department in its China branch.

X-Celeprint, a XTRION owned company, is working with potential partners to adopt its elastomer stamp micro-assembly technology for commercialization, the company CTO Christopher Bower told LEDinside during LEDforum 2016, which took place in late September in Taiwan.

More than 300 attendees turned up at LEDforum 2016, large numbers of visitors that signed up for the forum last minute queued patiently in front of the registration desk, a sight event organizers have not seen since 2011, said Roger Chu, director of research at LEDinside.

Just as LED manufacturers are struggling in face of the declining profit in the lighting sector and the contraction of the backlight market, OLED emerges as the latest threat to their survival. Elevated by its potential to become one of Apple’s core technologies, OLED has expanded rapidly into various display and niche applications. While the LED industry expects even more challenging times ahead, new opportunities also appear on the horizon. Micro LED, which has been incorporated into Apple and Sony’s product roadmaps, are poised to become a commercially viable display technology that can be mass produced for everyday applications.
