South Korea Indicts Suppliers for Selling Samsung’s Display Technology to China

South Korean prosecutors have charged nine people of selling Samsung’s technology of flexible OLED display to a Chinese company, reported Reuters. Toptec, a Samsung supplier which produce automated equipment for smartphone display production, has received 15.5 billion won (US$ 13.85 million) for transferring Samsung’s OLED panel technology to China. According to the report, the CEO and eight employees of the company has formed a shell company to receive information about panel production from Samsung Display and then sell the high-profiled documents...

European Scientists Make Breakthrough in OLED Technology to Achieve Cheaper Lighting and Flexible Solar Cells

In more than three years of work European scientists finally made future lighting technology ready to market. They developed flexible lighting foils that can be produced roll-to-roll – much like newspapers are printed. German Researchers Find out How Copper Can Make OLEDs more Efficient

Use of copper as a fluorescent material allows for the manufacture of inexpensive and environmentally compatible organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) ensures high light yield. Scientists of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), CYNORA, and the University of St. Andrews have now measured the underlying quantum mechanics phenomenon of intersystem crossing in a copper complex. The results of this fundamental work are reported in the Science Advances journal and contribute to enhancing the energy efficiency of OLEDs.

German Researchers Explore Doped Organic Semiconductors

Organic semiconductor materials are already being employed today in solar cells and organic LEDs (OLEDs) amongst others. Until now, however, little was known about how the doping molecules are integrated into the chemical structure of organic semiconductors. The Molecular Systems Joint Research Team of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin at BESSY II have now analysed this with surprising results. The molecules are not necessarily uniformly dispersed in the host lattice, as it is usual with inorganic semiconductors, but instead form what are known as co-crystallites.

Kent State University Professor Receives Grant to Develop OLED Tech for Flexible Displays

A Kent State University professor in the College of Arts and Sciences has received a grant from the Binational Science Foundation to continue his development of a combined LED and organic transistor that could be used in flexible displays.
