TDK Corporation has developed a partnership withToshiba, which will connect both companies' LED signs together at the One Times Square building in New York City, to present a dazzling LED animation featuring a fireworks presentation to celebrate Independence Day this July 4th. The display will start running June 27 through July 8, 2012. This is the second collaboration with TDK and Toshiba since last Christmas. TDK Corp recently has released the structure of the see-through OLED panel which started mass production in March 2011. The see-through OLED panel features a passive-matrix type and has a screen size of 2.4 inches. Its pixel count is 240 x 320 (QVGA). It can display color images. The brightness and transmittance of the new see-through OLED panel are 150cd/m2 and 40%, respectively. The worldwide OLED display revenue in Q308 was US$141 million, down 11% quarter by quarter, but up 60% year by year, according to market sources.
Chi Mei EL, the second supplier of AMOLED displays, posted record high shipments in Q308, while the leading AMOLED supplier Samsung SDI experienced lower shipments quarter by quarter. As a result, AMOLED shipments increased only slightly compared to Q208 reaching 1.7 million units.
