Indian State to Become 100% LED-lit by Distributing 1.5M LED Bulbs at US $0.38 and 166K Streetlight Upgrade

Goa, a state located in the South western region of India is to become the first state 100% lit with LEDs. The authority, the Electricity Department, has rolled out the distribution project of 1.5 million LED bulbs to approximately 489, 000 local consumers. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced to recall more than a half-million LED light bulbs of various brands on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Eight instances of the bulbs associated with visible smoke or fire have been reported.  A total of 68 product failures have been reported, including damage to light sockets, melted fixtures, burned flooring, damaged to a circuit and damage to a lamp.
